■ Enjoy Choosing a One-of-a-Kind Expression: Gohonde
When kohiki ware is fired using a reduction firing method—where oxygen is limited inside the kiln—the iron content in the clay reacts and creates soft pinkish spots known as Gohonde (御本手). As the color tones and patterns cannot be controlled, each piece develops its own unique character, allowing you to enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind appearance.

■ The Pleasure of “Growing” a Vessel: Kohiki
Kohiki (粉引) ware is created by applying a layer of white slip over the clay body, followed by a transparent glaze before firing. Due to its absorbent nature, subtle stains and color variations gradually appear with use, adding depth and character over time. While careful handling is required—such as thorough drying to prevent mold or odors—this evolving patina is considered part of the charm, allowing users to “grow” the vessel through daily use.
