Features

■The Meaning of New Year’s Decorations
New Year’s decorations such as shimekazari and kadomatsu are displayed to welcome the “Toshigami-sama” (god of the year) who brings good luck in the new year. Kadomatsu means “waiting for the gods” and is displayed at the entrance. Shimekazari means “a barrier” that separates the sacred area from the earthly world and is displayed in high places such as the entrance or the door of a room.
